NVQ 2 Security Guarding

The role of the security guard is an ever developing role with an increase in responsibility. The risk of criminal attack, terrorism or general emergency situations has placed an increasing demand on the security guard.

Candidate requirements

There is no specific prior experience or qualification required to undertake the security guard course. However due to the nature of the learning and assessment required for the qualification students will need a basic literacy and numeracy skills.

 

Course content

Part 1 Roles and responsibilities of the security guard (22.5 hours over 3 days)

  • Identify the role and responsibilities of the security guard
  • Identify the requirements for effective patrolling
  • Identify the requirements for controlling access
  • Identify the requirements for search procedures
  • Identify security and emergency systems and procedures
  • Recognise requirements for dealing with fire
  • Identify requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Identify the role and powers of the Security Guard in law
  • Identify requirements for dealing with emergencies
  • Identify requirements for customer care
  • Identify requirements for effective communication
  • Recognise equality and diversity in the workplace

Part 2 Communication and conflict management (7.7 hours – 1 day)

  • Avoiding conflict and reducing risk
  • Defusing conflict
  • Resolving conflict
  • Post-incident considerations and learning from conflict

 Assessment is a multiple choice question and answer examination.
